课文中给出的英语翻译是——
Most people generally think about the present or about things that will happen in the near future.
小女不才= =我认为课文给出的英文解释与句子的意思有出入,而且句子本身也很奇怪= =far beyond the present moment 不是深远的将来的意思么,可是句子的本意应该是说“很多人的认识是肤浅的”这样原句本身存在矛盾……
我看了最近两位好心人的回答【谢谢你们T T】
其中一位童鞋【或者老师】也认为far beyond the present moment表示某种与肤浅认识相类似的不现实的想法，这样的话也和本句的原意相一致
可是问题在于——课本给出的英文解释里并没有提到“不现实的想法”这样的内容……

我比较不懂得是that part 指的是什么?不是for the most part .
wholly on the surface即完全看表面，那当然引申出来就是肤浅了。that part of future 指的是未来生活（那部分）
大部分人类生活的全部表面或远远超出了目前的时刻，未来是迅速跟进的一部分。
大多数人普遍认为，对现行的或即将发生的事情将在不久的将来
远远超出了目前为止
